What we believe
Our Doctrinal Foundations
We are a people of the Book, grounded in the historic Christian faith and the Wesleyan-Methodist tradition of grace, holiness, and love.
What We Believe
The Holy Scriptures
We believe the Holy Bible, both Old and New Testaments, is the inspired Word of God — the supreme rule of faith and practice. Scripture contains all things necessary for salvation and is the primary authority for Christian belief and life.
The Holy Trinity
We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — equal in power and glory. This triune God is the Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer of all creation.
Jesus Christ
We believe in Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, who became fully human through the Virgin Birth. He lived a sinless life, died on the cross for our sins, rose bodily from the dead, ascended to the Father, and will return in glory.
The Holy Spirit
We believe in the Holy Spirit, who convicts the world of sin, regenerates believers, indwells the Church, and empowers Christians for holy living and effective witness.
Salvation by Grace
We believe that salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone. God's prevenient grace works in every person; justifying grace brings forgiveness and new birth; sanctifying grace leads believers toward holiness of heart and life.
The Church
We believe the Church is the body of Christ — a community of believers called to worship, fellowship, discipleship, ministry, and mission. The Methodist Marathi Church is part of the one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church.
The Sacraments
We observe two sacraments ordained by Christ: Holy Baptism (the sign of new birth and entry into the Church) and Holy Communion (the Lord's Supper, a means of grace and remembrance of Christ's sacrifice).
Resurrection and Eternal Life
We believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead, the final judgment, and eternal life. Those who trust in Christ will share in His resurrection and dwell with God forever.
The Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; He descended to the dead. On the third day He rose again; He ascended into heaven, He is seated at the right hand of the Father, and He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
